hey guys
Do any of you use/recommend any game trainers for M&M6, I tried playing it a while back but got bored due to the speed that you progress in the beginning.
I read on gamefaqs (i know the place is a shit hole) that there are trainers but I have no experience with them, never used a trainer before

Found 1 eh?! Would you be able to share a link to it? I have tried multiple trainers and they cannot see the program/process running. I have elevated the control for the trainer but still the same issue. If anyone happens to know one that works with the GOG version of M&M6, I would greatly appreciate it. I just downloaded it today :)

There are also versions of this trainer for MM7 & MM8 titled MM7CHE and MM8CHE. Iirc I tried MM7CHE with the Gog version von MM7, successfully. As it has almost the same code as MM6CHE, the latter should work for the Gog version of MM6.

i don't know what trainers are. but there are a lot of cheats that help to improve the speed which characters progress & become proficient. i recommend using a Google search for 'Might & Magic 6 cheats.' the pc will come up with a lot of info.

i found out what trainer/cheater character editors are. & i have a copy of at least 1. but it doesn't say how to use it. & i am not a programmer. i used to program dbase iv but that doesn't work in windows.
this editor is apparently in hex code which i have no idea how to use. can anyone direct me to a website or book that is not too long so that i can learn how to use this?

Might And Magic 6 Once you make a change using the editor you need to click the 'apply' button on the bottom right of the page for the change to affect your game. There's an 'apply' button for each page, not just one for the editor as a whole.

If all else fails, there's always emacs. It has a hex mode for viewing binary files such as saved games. There's also a diff mode for seeing the differences between two files.
Basic approach is to duplicate a save file for the game, such as with dired mode within emacs. (Or by using the operating system and its file browser.) Then start the game and load the copy, do something simple then save and quit. Another way is to save a game while playing, then immediately do something simple, then save the game again but with a different name, then quit. Whatever way is used to get two very similar saved game files, compare the two saved game files with the diff mode (or some other application for comparing files).
There might be a lot of changes but usually not too many. Keep making copies and comparing the different files and eventually the location for the hex value representing whatever is changed will become apparent, as well as the valid values for the hex value.
For example, after loading a copy of the save file, move one item from one character's inventory to the inventory of another character, then save and quit. Then compare the two save files. After a few times it should become apparent where the inventory items are saved in the file, as well as the hex value for each inventory item. Or spend some money and then compare the files to eventually figure out where the hex value is in the save file, and a little more experimenting to figure out how to record the proper hex value for the desired amount of money. Or desired amount of experience, or stats, or time, or whatever.
Comparing two new save games files can also be a quick way of determining where the character info is stored in them. For Might and Magic VI, everything is in the save file, including what is located in whatever locations throughout the world.
When making edits be sure to edit only a copy, even if it was already a copy. Also keep the hand edited files separate from the game edited files for less confusion, such as in separate directories outside of the game folder. In other words, it could help to keep a duplicate of saved games from the game folder in a directory outside of the game folder, then replace the files in the game folder with either those game edited save files or the hand edited save files, depending on what is being tested.
Of course, this is not live while the game is playing, the edits are done to save files while not playing the game. However, I find it useful for creating interesting beginnings for the game. I mean, I've picked out characters for a new game then saved and quit immediately, then used an edited copy of that save file for new games.
One of those times I adjusted everybody's Luck to 500 points but made absolutely no other changes, because I wanted see how it'd go for the luckiest people in the world, especially since they seemed so fated to their endeavors. Luck isn't necessarily all that apparent, but I wanted to see whether I could notice it's subtle effect.
Usually I make more changes than that for the beginning, as it becomes a rather easy way to simply pick new characters and set their traits rather than fiddling with the game interface. It also makes possible for creating an even more limited start, such as without any armor or weapons at the beginning, or perhaps begin with no money at all, or everyone weary (f.e. like what happens after Haste wears off). I tend not to ever change a saved game while playing it, except for discovering more about the save game files in general.
Interestingly, it would be one way to apply role-playing changes, such as sometime in the middle of the game pretending the party got ambushed when in Freehaven and everything stolen, and then maybe all their stolen items and money were scattered throughout the sewers. Now they have to fight thieves and diseased rats without any armor or weapons (at least initially until they start recovering their stolen items, perhaps some of them broken).
On other hand, there's also the possibility of changing the game executable itself… I haven't bothered with that, but it is intriguing, and probably how patches or mods have been developed for it without having the source code. I'm more interested in simply playing the game, I'm fine with the world how it is.
